But the 'weapons flying through the air' intrigued me.

I'm now thinking throwing boulders, so the magician pet vendor on Cyclops islands in oot, Elesseryl Terussar ?

Doesn't, but I think some of the mobs in the zone might throw them? Perhaps Gornit?

I actually camped Gornit for a few levels. Best I ever saw was him dropping all 3 toes at once:
