Assisted suicide for the mentally ill and soon for kids in Canada, yikes
On one hand, a physically capable adult who is determined to kill themself is incredibly difficult to stop, usually only to delay. Kids are much easier to stop due to the lack of lethality of their attempts, unless via hanging or they get hold of a gun
But just because a determined adult will probably ultimately kill themself either way, and all we are doing by attempting to prevent it is delaying it…that’s still not a reason to throw one’s hands in the air and assist them with it. That’s like saying “well he was going to get the heroin anyway so I just gave it to him”
And how does a Doctor’s Hippocratic oath factor into this? I dunno, killing an otherwise physically healthy human being I think sorta falls into the category of “doing harm”
Doctors doing this for the non terminally ill should be forced to relinquish their medical license and instead change their title to “Executioner”
