Thats what some said about the ec tunnel too.

Crazy thing is... in a niche game like eq you only need a few hundred or maybe a thousand other misfits and things just work out.

benefit of ldon was AE kiting 140 mobs / pull during EU primetime

it couldn't be done anywhere near US prime hours, because the load on the server hosting the zone would cause 15 second rubberbanding on npcs

it got nerfed soon after

LDON encouraged active play style and punished being overly cautious. Crawling the way the game is meant to be played!

You could swarm Dulak's Harbour on bard too!

Also lots of fun soling on shaman with stoicism and soulstripper from mid 40s onward.

Looking back, LDoN was probably more harmful than Luclin.

Instances and all.

100% agree. Ldon traded the concept of going down in to a dungeon for interconnected hallways. Ldon also ended quests and loot drops to be replaced with merchant rewards.
Ldon's release marks the end of true classic Everquest.
At the time we thought it was great but looking back I really dislike it. EQ was already dead at this point. Prefer the D&D style dungeons of classic like Guk, Perma, Befallen, Sol(s). Traps, false walls/floors and the overall style to them. LDoN was boring but it fed the reward mechanism people have which is in game design now. Instances do not belong in EQ, ever.

Don't understand all the hate on cats.

Cats were a good addition. Quit hating.

Agree. It really took the sense of accomplishment out of getting drops. If felt nice at the time to gear up characters quickly, but also devalued an essential part of what made EQ...EQ.
