EQ wasn't designed to be a single player game. I don't think any of the original EQ devs ever intended for a solo enc or a mnk/shm or clr/enc duo or whatever else to be night and day better xp than forming an actual group. It's disgusting how heavily encouraged solo/duo is on P99 imo.

So scaling the exp to be better for the less people involved in killing EXP mobs was just something they did for fun? Seems to me that breaking exp down in that manner was done for that exact reason...to award better exp for tougher kills.

only reason they lowered xp rate is so you buy xp pots or use points to buy xp pots

then claim "classic xp"

it's kind of stupid to bitch about xp rates and whether solo or group is better. isnt the goal to get to max level and do the real fun stuff? in that case who gives a fuck what method is better, just do the faster way and be done with it. join a group with a couple out of group 60's helping and get them levels son.

And exp will be really easy to come by when Luclin drops. People will be grinding AAs, so you just level 40 and hang out with the 60s while they exp.

Approximately how much USD does it cost to get started on Phinny (i.e. Fungi, Epic, Full Resist Set, Xp potion, etc...)?

Couldn't tell you USD because I haven't partaken, but fungis are like 5-6k which is essentially a krono, I don't really have a resist set because early on you're just dodging AEs and then once you're 60 and actually raiding you either easily power through them healers or straight up dodge (Zlexak for example) so there's no in between. Resist gear is dirt cheap though. I don't buy XP pots because daybreak will give you 3 a month that comes with your monthly sub.

It was designed as an adventure game. But everyone has a map, quest guide, mob descriptions etc. The adventure really isn't there for many veterans of the game.

Grouping has its place. Doing difficult camps, completing difficult quests and killings difficult named mobs.

But nothing is more boring than grinding EXP with no goal other than amassing EXP. Especially when that EXP is dependent on 5 other people being awake, carrying their weight, not being retarded or AFK. (I like to take AFKs on my time and soloing allows me to do that without hindering others)

Let people play the game to their style. Right now 6 People are better off soloing blue cons in a group together than they are ganging up and killing yellow/red cons. That's dumb. It's also dumb those 6 people get equal EXP to the solo chanter sweating every charm break, mez resist and lull critical failure. Dumbdumbdumb.

I am hoping during Luclin they change exp a bit so groups aren't so encouraged as a means to EXP. There are plenty of things in EQ and specifically Luclin that will encourage grouping. New Spells dropping in specific camps, VT Keys, LiS Earrings, Seru Keys, and plenty of drops in the Deep, Ssra, UP, and AR that can't be soloed. EXP comes as a byproduct for all of those so grouping is tolerable.

Yes, mmorpg developers need to take a lesson from social media. People don't actually want to interact with people they don't know, they just want a paltform to tell those they do know about themselves. We need gameplay integrated with a peronalized webpage including character sheets and live news feeds of achievements, like If PSN user profile and magelo shagged on MySpace.
