Those pipelines are hard to empty and also hard to start and restart. I doubt it would be an easy process to “plug it up” or do something more permanent. It’s very serious. Serious like there’s no way it’s fixed within a few months

But I don’t know exactly how those pipelines work. Generally, undersea methane pipelines are hard as fuck to fix even when flow is interrupted. But that was never my expertise in engineering

Edit: didn’t answer your original question. There are three leaks (probably) coming from three different damaged sections of pipeline

Now Europe definitely won't let up in Ukraine.

Russia would be in a much better place with the pipe in place. With the ability to turn gas on when EU agrees to back down.

That’s how bad it seems this leak is. I’m not an expert on this topic though so who knows. But even quality undersea welders are in short supply. I assume no one works in Europe, so probably even harder there
