In Everquest, there are no aggro spells, and to tank you have to hit first, hit hard, and pray to god your auto attacks and weapon procs do enough to turn the mob to you rather than the frail clothie in the back line.
Not entirely true. Sure, for warriors it tracks, but hybrid classes definitely have spell lines that cause huge aggro generation. IN fact one of the first spells an SK gets is used from lvl 9-50 because it's so cheap and just causes instant aggro. Not to mention paladins Flash of Light/Stun, Rangers' Flame lick etc.

So far, I've levelled a monk, enchanter, and necromancer all to around 12-15 on green to get a taste of them, and dip my toes into everquest for the first time. I'm absolutely loving the game, but looking for a more routine/consistent group to play and do things with. The starter zones seem barren on blue though, so I'm trying my luck here.

I've been playing here for about 9 years. Mostly on blue but I got on green at l;aunch. Stopped playing a few weeks in. WEnt back to blue earlier this year and the state of it has caused me to stick exclusively to green. I personally don't care about end game. I like getting to about level 45-51 and then moving on to something new and challenging. And doing that on blue is pointless because as you said, the low level zones are barren.

If you would like to play some time I am up for it. I have characters on both servers, would be open to rolling somehting new, but let me just suggest this: there's no need to find a defined group and level only with them. Part of EQ is exploration and meeting new people. The trick is to just go to places that fit your level range and socialize with people there. Find groups that need a slot filled. If none of the groups need more players, start doing /who all # # in your level range (so /who all 12 15 will list all players between lvl 12 and 15) and start talking to people who and see if you can organize a pick up group.

People iwll say that even on green it's hard to find groups. That after finishing in crushbone they ran to unrest and no one would invite them. And that probably did happen. But that's not the end of the story. I'm currently leveling a druid and very few groups are eager to invite Druids. But when I wanted to group I almost always was able to coordinate something by actively seeking out other players.

You will only get as much as you put into the game.

It is, when you compare it to other games. In world of warcraft for example paladins have Righteous Fury and Hand of Reckoning, and druids have Growl which pretty much guarantees the tank will have aggro 100% of the time no matter how much ass the healers and dps blast

In eq it's more unpredictable; even if your SK disease clouds or the pally flashes you have to be VERY careful and manage your aggro or the mob, and I know for a fact that's enough of a deterrent for tank mains in more casual games not to play tank in eq

Best way to learn EQ is to farm about 400-600pp, then make a rogue and just hang out in your groups.

Throw your LFG tag on with /lfg on and play for the journey not the destination, this is a 20 year old game on a 10 year old box, it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Check out the p99 wiki for tons of useful information and guides on hunting locations and information on how to play your class.

Most of all have fun.
When I'm on, I have always had my LFG tag on and I'm lowish level (13) too. If you take a look there should be a few people around.
