Adjusting the gamma helps my barbarian see well enough to navigate at night while on a CR. It's been a while since I've had to use it, but handy in a pinch. Otherwise I rely on items that provide infravision.

Imagine you are in the bathroom at the middle of the night and everything is dark

except the bathroom

you close the light look around

thats what human night vision is like

It is insanely dark, and terrible at night to be a human, erudite, or barbarian.

It is much more classic.

The biggest negative is that every other playable race has to suffer having really messed up dynamic lighting enabled in order to replicate the (almost) correct level of human night-blindness.

On live these blindies were unpopular (except barbarians) because of this. Barbarians were pretty popular because they are the alpha race.

Yeah, I'd like to say that infravision helps (and it does, very slightly), but because of the changes necessary for night blindness, basically anyone without ultravision has it rough.

On my Human Monk, I died in Unrest one night. I ran back from GFay and got to the tunnel to Unrest. It was 100% black. I literally could not find the turns. I ended up using /loc and taking tiny steps to find my way to the zoneline (light INSIDE unrest works differently and was fine).

Moral of the story: If Human/Erudite/Barb, have a bag of torches or lightstones or whatever in your bank so you can grab one after death and have a shot at finding your corpse.

Jadier that experience is correct and classic, you really didn't want to travel as a human without a light source.

GRMurphy I am more referring to the bloomed out ugly light sources making the game look and run poorly.

Make a human and a half elf ranger who both start at surefall glade. Play both there at in game night time. You can see that the elf can see JUST FINE compared to the human who is in a tunnel of dark. It isn't quite classic but its good that their life sucks. ( as intended )

To be fair, I keep my gamma really low (like, 21%), so I don't notice the blown out lighting. Whenever I watch youtube vids, people's games look really washed out

I found my gamma settings in game were being overwritten by f.lux

My issues went away when I closed f.lux

If you are having issues with gamma not changing or snapping back, you might have another program affecting it.

Same here. Cost about 150p avg right now so likely not attainable to someone brand new..
