Had to make a correction. Apparently the robber verbally threatened to stab the guard (as reported by witnesses) and rushed him, but was apparently not armed
The security guard was released from jail and not charged by the DA because the threat and the movement towards the guard was enough for the DA to agree reasonable fear for threat to life was present Stupid to steal, stupid to announce you have a knife and rush someone with a gun when you don’t. Always sad when someone dies but this seems like Darwin’s law to me

While we’re at it, can’t a crazy homeless person with 44 prior arrests including punching a 67yr old woman in the face scream threats at people on a subway these days without getting choked to death?
Maybe if the city didn’t push these crazies onto the public and hamstring police’s ability to keep the public safe, the public wouldn’t have to try to take things into their own hands That dude WILL probably get a negligent homicide charge for not understanding the risks of holding a choke for 15 minutes, which is whatever, maybe fair enough. Still fucked of the city to put the public in that position through their apathy towards rampant homeless drug use and psychosis

So like since people don't believe hell exists. We need more life imprisonment without parole. And we deliberately cripple the violent ones with surgery and drugs to make them easy to manage. If they refuse to eat their basic ration we feed them DeSantis gitmo style with firehoses. Being rude, loud, messy, littering, using any kind of drug or inconsiderate behavior is considered violence in this society. Breaking any kind of noise regulation or burning shit too. This would 1000% guaranteed result in utopia by its most literal definition and literally we could use Google AI enhanced sensors everywhere to enforce it. It would be fucking amazing. The inmates would learn to be quiet and polite and meditate or we remove their vocal cords and sew their eyes shut and keep them restrained. [You must be logged in to view images. Literally my only grievance with most jurisdictions is the prisons are fucking hellholes and psychwards suck This guy (the dead one) was clearly incapable of being responsible and likely refused treatment or bounced around prison a bunch. That is how the government is at fault. It should be nearly impossible to get out of jail or psychwards once you have fucked up enough to involve needing the police. That includes simply being homeless too. Because not being homeless just requires you to not do street drugs and stay in a fucking shelter. We definitely need to improve our care of the homeless and the violent (screaming or drug using) homeless definitely need zero privileges or freedom ever again. The truth is these people are committing suicide. Just because they are endangering others and taking their sweet time with it doesn't make them victims of anything. At best they should have been euthanized when they failed basic in kindergarten.

It is sadly hilarious that the commonly accepted “best practice” to deal with a crazy, drug addled, career criminal screaming threats in your face in public is to put in headphones, don’t make eye contact, and sit there like a little bitch hoping that the first punch, kick, or stab to your unsuspecting body doesn’t render you incapable of fleeing
Your chances of this, of course, go down with age and sex. Fuckin sad country
