Very New Player Questions
Hi all, first time playing Everquest at all.
I've made it to level 6 as an Ixtal Shaman. Leveling is pretty slow. I know this game is supposed to be a grind but I'm wondering if I'm doing anything wrong. Should I be on the lookout for more quests? I've done the Curscale Armor quest a few times. Overall, what would you be doing as a new player at my level to level up? Sometimes I see a player type in green/out of character, how do I respond to them? Also I named my character more of a funny name. Nothing offensive at all but also not a fantasy name, and I now know that's not the vibe here from reading forums. Is it too late to change it, or am I risking losing the work I've put into my char and should just reroll? Would appreciate any input, tysm.

/ooc to type out of character
/tell playername to send tells. /shout shout /g for group chat /gu for guildchat funny names more than welcome. join a guild, you look like you'll need help everquest is a deceptive name. you get exp mostly by killing stuff, not by exp quests, unless you're trying to be the fastest 1-50 in the history of any p99 server (see my signature.)

Leveling is slow as hell in EQ and on p99.
Early levels are particularly bad since you have so few abilities. Levels 4-12 are some of my most dreaded levels. Leveling at higher levels is slow too but there’s more to do and more player interaction for those who seek it. I also think most players have adopted a zen-like approach and not worry so much about levels and just play, it’ll come when it comes. Better gear will help too but only by so much. As long as you have food, drink, kill a high green or blue targets and meditate when you have the skill you’re not fucking up too badly.
