I'll start by saying that I am pretty much a non-factor on Red server even though I have a 60 and several 50+ characters and have played there for a year.
This server has always been toxic. I should have known from the very first day I logged on in January 2013 and the first thing I saw in chat was an hour long diatribe by Slathar about how his ugly wife abuses him. I'm completely neutral between the guilds. I've met cool people from Nihilum, Red Dawn, Azrael, etc... and I've met complete asshats from each of those guilds as well. However, with the introduction of the PnP, the emergence of Red Dawn and the cracking down by the administrators... the server has reached new heights of toxicity. ... which brings me to the point of this post. Please don't let the Teams server not happen. I'm pretty sure Sirken and Zade are seething with rage over the events of the last few weeks, the petitions, the bickering, the ooc flame wars, etc. Teams server would fix all that. I assume that on a teams server, even if there is global ooc... it would only be team global ooc. Meaning the people that you are fighting against can't hear your shit talking, and can't shit talk back to you. The benefits of global ooc remain (feeling like you're playing with other people, making trading and finding groups possible, socializing, etc) while the problems with it would be eliminated. Griefing. Maybe I'm mistaken, but when you're part of a community that has common cause against another community... you're much more willing to help other people and work together. So if a group of people from your team are being corpse camped... it's in your best interest to pitch in and help them out. After all, next week it might be you that needs help. I don't think there would need to be nearly as much GM arbitration for things like the PnP on a Teams server. The community should hopefully helps its own. Wishful thinking? Perhaps. But can it get any worse than what it is now? Sorry to drone on about this for so long. And I'm sure there will be no end to the flame posts about "yet another stupid teams post" and that I should stfu, but you know what? I was really excited when they announced the prospect of a teams server. But that was 4 months ago now and I am very concerned that the Project1999 admin staff are going to just throw up their hands and say "to hell with this" and abandon the plans for the Team server, and perhaps even the Red server as well. Lord knows as a community we don't deserve anything from them right now. | ||
