/Role and Anon

hmm old post, but anyway I use anon since I don't like people not on my friends list sending me messages wanting me to travel 6-10 zones to be their healbot. And then what, by the time I get there there is no group spot open because they found another just 2 zones away? lol not happening. /anon good, stooped n00bs bad.

Well my guild was going to pop into Hate to see whats up and oh hai there's a bajillion ppl here. We still got to kill some stuff but I think its just kinda rude to be secretly in a zone. We coulda saved time and money going somewhere else. I dunno about other servers (and it was a long time ago) but I recall that there was a "raid calendar" on some forum that all the raiding guilds abided by. No surprises there. So, to counter the "its not classic" bs that people herp derp regurgitate, it may be classic to anon/role but where are all the raid calendars? I know calendars weren't Verant but there doesn't seem to be much decency here in this dept.

I don't care half as much about this as people auctioning items without price tags next to everything (even if its an obo price it would be some kind of guideline). Generally on Lanys T people always put prices next to everything... I'm guessing its to stop prices going into freefall?

It's their business whether or not they want to use anon. It was in classic, so let them.

Voting on it makes no sense. It's not a democracy, so nobody has to be forced to conform to what the majority wants.

Having a very competitive nature when it comes to higher end raiding, I've always liked having the option to be anon. I also like to be left alone when I want to be. By doing a little research you can save yourself time and plat before porting to places you expect to exp. The chances of every single person in a zone being anon is very slim unless it's a guild raid, and in that case too bad. Competition is what makes this game fun.

The first character I leveled was a magician. Then a warrior. I never used /anon or /role, and had the same "Why do these losers go /anon?" attitude that a lot of the people before me have mentioned.

Then I leveled a cleric. After about the 300th tell of "Hey, mind running to <random zone on a different continent> to rez my group, I'll donate" and getting 20p, I decided /role was the best tool ever implemented in this game, outside of /ignore.

Long story short. Anyone who says /anon is stupid has never played a cleric, druid, or enchanter. Anyone who says they did is lying or a saint.

I use anon because I'm so used to it from pvp servers. Other than that I hate guild tags sticking out under my name.

As a cleric I put up role to indicate that I am otherwise busy and not available to run across 10 zones to rez your entire party for 20p.

Ya know, it's funny to read some of the comments and see how some are so extreme. There really is a time and place for everything. I don't have issue with the option of /role /anon but rather about how some people choose to use the option.

On my druid, I keep /Role up. Partly to avoid the tells asking for ports, and partly because I usually will roleplay on the druid as a buffing slave to our Iksar guild. Or I'm PLing someone and don't want to be distracted so I may /anon. On my Necromancer/Enchanter, I switch it up: if I'm in a RP mood and feel like hissing a lot, I flip it on and talk in Lizardman: that's why /Role is an option, after all, to Roleplay. But if I go LFG or don't have a good reason to keep it on, I take the damn thing down, it's pointless to keep it up without good reason.

I do also have that old Zek habit, of always wanting to be anon. It's a hard habit to break, particularly when it would get you killed. But I do try to fight it [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I hate it when people ask me for some kind of favor while being anon or role. I have no idea who you are, why should I help you? I usually respond with some sarcastic RP about it until they take anon off.
