I'm guessing we'll hear:

1. This wasn't his fault. His actions were the result of some form of oppression or marginalization by society.
2. We need more government funding for programs to help combat stressors giving rise to this sort of thing in the communities of which he was a part.
3. This is the fault of one or more prominent social/political figures who disagree with 1 and 2.

With 100's of millions of small arms in the US, any prohibition on possession thereof would only be followed by rational law abiding citizens. The idea therefore that criminals would not have them is naive.

I am NOT afraid of criminals with guns. Criminals with guns dont walk into churchs and shoot everyone... criminals with guns dont send manifestos to their old work and shoot 2 journalists.. Criminals with guns dont dress up like super villains and shoot random people in movie theaters... Of course criminals cause gun deaths, but if I am going to be killed by a gun.. it is going to be by someone who isn't a criminal, or at least wasn't until they shot me.

I do question myself, which is why i went back and corrected a bad statement i made in the original post after discovering the reason :P
