I'm honestly surprised that people keep going to law school in such numbers. I think almost everyone knows a bunch of lawyers working outside their field. I've never seen such an over-saturated market.

In contrast, I don't know a single CPA who doesn't have an accounting job.

It's a huge problem, and new students are not fully informed of the reality. The ABA needs to kill about 100 schools. I made the same mistakes; its worked out well for me, but at the time I made the decision I was woefully misinformed. Thank God I have 0 debt. Most aren't so lucky, and it is absolutely debilitating.

a buddy of mine is a buildings IT for a financial company ... i think there is like 450people/PCs int he building they pay him 180k a year plus bonuses and he has a GED with about 18 months at some tech college ... education dont mean shit imo
Ask most Ivy League law/med grads what they'd do if they capped out at $180k a year and then reconsider.

$160 plus bonuses is entry-level for top lawyers. Partners at major firms make well over $2 million per year, on average.

It is definitely possible to make bank with a crappy degree, but not likely at all. For every one making it, the road is littered with the corpses of the damned who didn't pull it of. Daldoma was right: if you don't go to a top 14 school or a strong regional with a great scholarship, you're probably making a bad decision. The advantages of the elite schools are just too numerous for the third tier toilet schools to compete with.

I have a pretty good friend who doubled down on his bad choice by hanging out his own shingle. He's taking all these petty cases like speeding tickets trying to make ends meet and now his wife is pregnant.

I don't think money rules the world (I'm chasing an MFA), but I think it's important to make conscious and well-informed choices.

I do not live in the US and I did get into an "elite" law school in the country I am in, so I'm not too worried.
