Welcome back! There are a lot of us playing because modern MMOs have dispensed with player interdependence, challenge, and early gameplay to cater for 'casual' end-game re: bait & switch tactics.

The earlier zones - and frustrations - are very much present and a heck of a lot of fun if you enjoy the challenge and old school mechanics. Still as unforgiving as ever, and still offering a variety of playing styles.

One word of caution: decide early on if you wish to resume raiding. With variance (Raid mob spawns randomly inbetween a set time-range either before or after it was next due to spawn), getting out of bed stupid o'clock in the morning is not uncommon.
