Good SK weapon for poor guy

What's a good SK weapon for someone pretty new that doesn't have hundreds of pp let alone thousands? I'm using a Two Handed Sword right now and a few rusties for skill ups at lvl 17 and they do fine, but I'm keeping my eyes open for something better. Should I not worry about it and save for those 55 rings?
