Default armor class broken?

I always hear people talking about how AC code is broken on this server. I'm just not sure exactly in what way its broken. Can anyone elaborate?

I've been told AGI isn't as good on P99 as it was on Live, too. /shrug Possibly just nonsense.

AFAIK it is working as intended, but each class has different levels of mitigation (a hidden value that determines how much melee damage actually gets through on a successful attack), meaning that even if a Wizard can somehow match the armor class of a Warrior, the Warrior is still going to take significantly less damage on average because of a higher mitigation value. They shrug off a bigger percentage of total damage than other classes, regardless of their armor class or avoidance skills.

What AC does is lowers the average range of damage that you're going to take on a successful hit. If for example an enemy hits you for a range of 8-64 damage, the more AC you have, the less likely it is that you will be hit for the full damage when an attack gets through. Less AC means you're going to get hit for the full 64 or relative values more often because your AC isn't reliably defending against it.

Also, come Velious Monks take a HUGE hit to their overall mitigation. They'll still be able to dodge and avoid attacks like normal, but when they get hit, they will get hit HARD.

Is the monk mitigation change an actual change made to the hidden value of monk damage avoidance capability that came into play on velious release? Or just something funky that is going to happen on emu?

It actually didn't happen until SoL / PoP era.

Could somebody find some definitive poof of when the monk ac nerf went into effect? I've seen this argument of when the nerf happened on about 20 different threads (or more) and I haven't seen anybody provide anything to show when it went into effect. In Velious? After Velious? Tomorrow?

Speaking of forum hearsay, there was (not sure if it still exists) an issue where your true AC isn't the number you see on your stats... if I could find that thread I'd dig it out, probably 2 years old.

Based on that, you could argue its broken.

RAW AC

Hardcap on Raw AC for non casters was 289 at level 60. Hardcap for casters was 385. Looking at the numbers at the bottom of Kavhok's post, a level 51 Monk with 163 Raw AC was at the Hardcap. Raw AC caps for every class (except Nec/Wiz/Mag/Ench) per level should look like this from 51-60. It's just an assumption but I bet AC was hardcapped per level from 1-50 also. However the increase was much smaller. It looks like 3 AC per level.

Melee (non casters)

60 - 289
59 - 275
58 - 261
57 - 247
56 - 233
55 - 219
54 - 205
53 - 191
52 - 177
51 - 163
50 - 149 or 50 - 160
40 - 119 or 40 - 130
30 - 89 or 30 - 100
20 - 59 or 20 - 70
10 - 29 or 10 - 40
1 - 2 or 1 - 10
i added up Goat's AC and i'm just below the Hard Cap for level 56, got plenty of room to work with by the time i hit level 60 though.

if that info is correct, then hitting the hard cap at 60 during Kunark is actually pretty difficult for a warrior. pretty much gotta be in full Cobalt to hit the 60 hard cap.
