Default Trying to get EQ to run at work

Hey Guys. Being the lazy bastard and EQ addict I am, I decided to try to get EQ to run at work.

I opened the EQ folder at home and burnt all the files onto a cd. I took the cd to work, popped it into the drive, and copy/pasted them into a folder on my work computer. I made a shortcut, added the patchme to the end.

When I try to open EQ it gives me an error saying "eqgame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Any suggestions? I am running windows VISTA at home, and Windows XP at work.

Your domain at work is probably behind a firewall. You may be able to do something with a proxy server but I don't know the details of how that would work - someone else here may be able to provide suggestions.

I would suggest using your phone if you have a smartphone with tethering [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I had a friend over at my place and we didn't get IP exempt fast enough, so I let him use my home connection and I played through my cell phones data connection. No lag! Thats the great thing about an awesome 11 year old game haha.

I am running on a lap top. Specs are:

Genuine Intel CPU @T2300 @ 1.66GHz
980 MHz. 1 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GO 7400
WinXP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2

I can run other games on it. Think it may have to do with the way I put the files on my comp? Instead of DLing everything on this comp I just burned the files onto a cd then copy/pasted the files from the cd onto this comp.

Perhaps it is confused with where it's trying to find the files?

On XP the system installs to C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest

Do you have Vista 64 bit? If so that goes to C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\

I don't know.. something to try though!

If you burn it to CD, I don't know if you have to edit the shortcut location, etc...

I checked and it is pointed to the correct path. When I open the game it starts up, but then crashes right away giving me that error message.

Thanks for all these suggestions, keep em comin!!!

Thats a good way to get fired.
The network guys at your work can see EVERYTHING that goes in or out through the firewall.
Every URL you surf, every connection made.

Make sure your work doesn't mind that you run online games from there or you might be out of a job.
