Default Soloing at 60

So, I'm very much a solo kind of guy. I currently have a lvl 60 necro and am debating on whether to take a shammy or chanter to 60 next.

Being a 60 necro is fun but you can definitely feel the limitations in terms of camping high-value targets. With the right highend clickies it becomes more doable but still there are several things you just can't ever really get to solo because it requires either slow or living-charm.

Can someone break it down to me, what kind of stuff can a shaman solo that a chanter CAN'T and vice versa?

I'm not interested in hearing that maaaaaaybe a shaman/chanter with BiS and bags of charged items have a shot when the other class would be able to do it more straight forward. If that makes sense.

I'm mainly interested in doing camps with high pp value items or no drop items that are desireable for either class [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Not sure if there is any camp a shaman can do that a chanter can simply not do. Sure, there are cases where the shaman has it easier or safer...

I guess it has to be a sliding scale in terms of difficulty. I imagine that soloing dragons in WW might be doable for an ENC but I would also imagine it would mean almost certain death to get a charm break?

In that case (if I'm even right in my assumption) I think I wouldn't want to be doing it as a chanter. But I don't know maybe you're right.

How about the other way around? What can a chanter solo (that is meaningful) which a shammy can't?

Really, I'd say a chanter will get the same job done as a shaman without dumping truckloads of plat into your spell book.

PoM puppets seems to be where the differences lie in potential of each class on the high end of the spectrum. I can solo A4 22 but its a luck shot and a lot of little variables come into play depending on charm duration and how fast you can handle a charm break with a hasted puppet from A1.

Back on Live I rember Shaman being able to solo some dragons enchanters just could not (eg. In Western Wastes). Not sure if that's true here.

I would say check out the solo artists page and look at how they grade the capabilities of what can/cant be done or has yet to be accomplished. Chanters and Shaman's make up most of that list but there are a few notable exceptions to what people thought was not possible and so on.

Shamans are better at soloing in PoM. Chanters can do PoM as well, but it's much safer on a shaman.

I have a 60 epic torp shaman and a 60 epic enchanter. You can do more with a chanter due to calm spell line, but shamans are better soloers if you can get a 1v1 situation.

As a 60 enchanter, I find the enchanter style of play to be more fun and more versatile than what a shaman can do.

Now, let me say that if EQ was a game where you consistently had 1 on 1 fights, shaman would likely be stronger. They are more resilient and have far more survivability.

EQ is not a game where you get 1 on 1 fights. In fact, just about any loot worth looting is going to be deep in a dungeon surrounded by lots of mobs. An enchanter can move through a dungeon with more ease than just about any class. Lulling your way to the camp you want is infinitely easier than fighting there and risking death or train etc.

All of that being said, they are both strong enough that I would play the class you enjoy better. Personally I HATE looking at health bars. Any class that can heal, you will have to look at health bars sometimes. I refuse. So for me, enc all the way. If you prefer duoing with melee or want to take some hits from time to time, shaman might be your ticket.
