Started Half-Elf bard in Freeport, decided to level in Feydark. waited 30 minutes for the boat all the while translating a business transaction between an Erudite and a Wood Elf. Another 30 minutes hiding on the boat. Traveled Butcherblock praying to Bristlebane that whatever road I was on led to Greater Fey. It didn't...
Waiting for boat in Freeport... Finally arrived in Feydark as night fell and spent another 30 minutes wandering the dark, foggy forest mashing my sense heading skill fearing for my life looking for Kelethin. In that 2 or so hours I could have run like 5 instances in just about any other MMO out there. In that 2 or so hours I managed to cram more fun and worthwhile memories than I can recall in the last month of gaming in just about any other MMO out there. 10/10 - Would wait for boat again. Left EQ after Valious when SOE decided it needed to be WoW'ized. It is good to be finally home. Ghreydius, level 6 Bard singing healing songs in Greater Fey. Love to group, love adventures, love people. Look me up. Performing in a group near you! Bristlebane I love this game!

haha i was just saying last night this is what makes EQ great... you'll spend 3 or 4+ hours grouping with people and actually talking to them as opposed to in WoW you run thru a dungeon, noone says anything and then say peace!

I heard some people don't even level up, they just ride the boat cause it's so much fun. Unlike WoW and all their bullshit.

My first Everquest character ever was a Human Shadowknight. I did the West Freeport thing for a while and duo'd with a friend who rolled a Human Monk to show me around. Eventually, he recommended we move to Crushbone, so we got on the boat.
The boat ride was long, but peaceful and exciting in a way. I was going to a whole new continent. Just how huge was Norrath? Amazing. I wasn't aware of faction issues, and I did not get a warm welcome at the docks at Butcherblock. My friend dragged my corpse outside of the dock while I took a second voyage to Faydwer, this time, jumping off early hoping no sharks would get me, swam to shore and finished my CR. At that point, the trip to Crushbone was intense -- hugging the zone wall, killing aggressive mobs, my heart rate surging when I passed a guard house. Praying the orc runner or the wandering ogre wasn't going to get me... Good times. The Human SK couldn't turn in crushbone belts and pads, so I eventually abandoned that Human SK and rolled a DE SK and did other things. Once you go Blue (skin), you never go back.
