Low Level Enchanter: Animation vs. Charm

Any experienced enchanters like to shed some light on low level charming vs. their anmiations?Is there any diminish return for using charm at such a low level (12) vs. the level 12 animation?

I know you can charm mob #1, kill mob #2 with charmed mob #1 and then, invis and kill your charmed pet, but after thats all said and done i'm OOM basically.

Do things pick up after you get clarity?

Things pick up with charming after 16 and breeze. I charmed until 39, then at 39 I found I could easily solo with the animation because of his improved regen (pet will almost outregen blue con mob dps at 39 after it is slowed. It was a joke after 44 with Shiftless Deeds). At that point, it was a toss-up for me. The animation was slow, steady, easy exp for when I didn't want to pay attention, but if I really wanted to work I could charm and it would be faster.

I charmed from 12 onward and found 12-16 pretty difficult. I did it on the red server so the amount of time needed to do it was really small but I'm not sure I would do it again.

From 16 onwards it makes sense and is incredibly easy with breeze but I would have to say an animation almost makes more sense. Couple that with root jousting (letting your pet tank, run in for a quick swing of the wep and duck out) and you'll level pretty quickly to 16.

Don't let charmed pet kill mob #2 and take 50% xp! When both are low on health, root mob #2. Back mob #1 away, sit it down and back up to max casting range. Use Taper Enchantment to break charm for better mana efficiency. Nuke mob #1, then mob #2. Get 100% xp for both.

the thing about charm is that mobs are quite weak at that level. At L60 you can charm a L50 krup with 8000 HP and 100 dps vs an animation with 2000HP and 30 DPS. The difference is not nearly as stark at lower levels.

I was having the same problem at your level with mana, especially if a charm broke and I had to get control back.

Level 19 now though and it's getting better as I'm using the same spells as I was at 12. Also use the level 4 Mesmerise for everything. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] It's got a great mem blur component.

yea its pretty rough at low levels, needing at least 50% mana to kill a target and be 'safe', cant wait to get a few more levels

Yes it is. Atleast it was a 2 years ago when I asked Rogean directly. It should still be today.

And yea this is why a large chunk of those who seek low level PLs are enchanters. To get past the first 16-20 levels into a place where soloing is a lot easier.
