![]() Quick question: How worthwhile is it to raise DEX if you intend on using a proc-weapon? in addition, are most proc-weapons worthless (for the level they're intended for)?
I ask as I intend to try and give my Ranger some good proc weapons. I don't REALLY know what those are, or if the ones I remember being good for my Warrior back on Live are actually existent on P99 at this point. Thing is, I DO want to try and use my bow with my Ranger, even if it might be inferior to melee damage, since I intend on solo'ing. I hear that DEX is what affects bow damage, as well as how often weapons proc. So my question here is, is the difference between low/high DEX towards proc weapons great enough to actually warrant the extra stat points? Does anyone know the hard numbers for this? I'm not a mathematician by any standard, but I'd still like to know. | ||

![]() Dex will help your bow damage, but not sufficiently to make the investment of absurd levels of dex worth it. Same for weapon procs.
For consistent melee dps, your best bet is strength once you're over level 35 or 40 or so. Before that, weapon damage is the most important (once level 20 damage cap is passed). For bow-kiting, you really want flat mana. Bow shot + spell, move a bit, repeat. You'll get more mileage out of that than out of cranking dex.

![]() Swarmcaller on your Ranger. That's all. (well, not quite all...swap it for a woodsman once it procs.)

![]() STR is more rewarding than DEX, with Swarmcaller and Steel Hilted Flint Dagger being a couple of notable exceptions. I used Swarmcaller quite a bit for soloing, and the difference between procing the slow right away instead of never procing it is night and day. Steel Hilted Flint Dagger imho is more of a toy than anything else, but if you do proc it a lot it will definitely do a lot of damage.
I don't know the exact effect of DEX, but I heard that it is about 100 DEX = one more proc per minute. Qualitatively, this sounds about right from my own observations. Another note is that haste and slows don't affect the amount of procs you get. If you get hasted, your proc rate per swing will drop to compensate for the fact that you get more swings. If you plan to solo with Root n' Shoot, having Tolan's Bracers and Arms and a good bow will matter a lot more than your DEX.
