Default Hello everyone

It has been a long time since I played Everquest and I am finally coming back. I am excited and I am trying out a class and race I have never played before. I was wondering if anyone could give me tips or maybe a guide for a new Iksar Shaman.

My shamans name is Mephela. Currently lv 4 and making my way to lv 5 for new spells. Thanks for the guide mattitude. I remember leveling in kurns also overthere a lot. Is Cabilis the only place an Iksar can bank in p99?

Welcome! P99 is a great place and I hope you enjoy your experience in the game and with the community as much as I have.

Stay active on the forums. You'll learn a lot and there are often player run events where you can win top end loot!

Ignore the trolls, I am not one of them. Rnf is a great place to post if you are upset at players in the game. Your class forum is the place to learn from the best of us.

And don't mind the addicts! They are just part of the fauna.

There are cute quests in Cabilis you can do to get free bags, starting armor, weapons, etc.
The good news is you can get to level 20 with just that starting crap, your spells and Field of Bones + Kurn's Tower. Keep all the bone chips you can find, then try to sell them aggressively (15pp+ per stack) to rich necromancers or faction seekers. Then you can buy a 100pp weapon, 100pp full set of banded, 500pp for two 5ac 55hp rings which will be enough for 20-49.
At that point you will have made up your mind on everything else by yourself /o/

Welcome.

I will try to give you some ideas about race for shaman to think on!

Iksar shaman is small, has a tail, has regen which will help you seeing you won't have a fungi tunic for a long while. Regen meshes with shaman cannibalization spells well, and the more HPS you got with regen the better. Iksar (and troll) regen make them even more efficient regarding gianing mana back thanks to their natural racial regen.

The downside to iksar is they start in a desolate place, they cannot slam (as all the other large races can) which helps when you fight casting mobs, and they cannot use a JBB (bracer with a clicky nuke at lvl 45 does 263 damage) which is a really nice leveling aid. Iksar are also hated everywhere by everything but iksar.

Consider a troll if you want natural regen for your shaman. They can choose Innoruuk as their deity, this allows you to also quest a nice clicky snare necklace but you must choose Innoruuk at character select to later quest this item. Troll gets slam, and also can use JBB later on at 45 lvl. Trolls can cast shrink so they can be smaller in dungeons just in case you forgot.

If you want a shaman that can move about most of Norrath with little trouble meaning you can find places to bank and buy/sell at vendors easier, has slam, can use a JBB and looks the most handsome go with barbarian for your race.

Last is ogre. Last but probably the best honestly speaking for shamans racially. They get stellar starting stats, and the one ability that no item in the game emulates is their racial FSI or frontal stun immunity. Basically if you stand in a corner and face mobs, the chances of you being interrupted compared to all other races is significantly less. What this means is, you will get your roots off easier, your slows off easier, this means you will not get stun locked and killed by mobs if you happen to have more than one on you. It's really a powerful racial and cannot be understated how nice it is for a shaman! Just remember to stick +5 points into AGI because ogres start with 70, meaning you will have a significant armor class hit due to having AGI less than 75. You want any new character to start with 75+ AGI, just an FYI.

Hope that helps and welcome to p99!

Go troll

Me personally as a shaman I would rather have regen over stun immunity. If OP was making a warrior my reply would be different.

Like someone else previously mentioned, if you're backed into a corner most of the time you're going to get the spell off anyways.

With that said, welcome to p99!

Yes it's between troll or ogre imo.

Honestly, the shaman class is so powerful race makes little difference. That's why everyone says just go with what you like the looks of best.
