Default Repetitive Sound in Game - A warning or notification?

Hello All,

Continuing my string of new player questions, here is one that is really puzzling me.

After I play for a time a sound will start repeating regularly through my speakers. It sound like cymbal but not a loud crash, more like when a cymbal is brushed. It will repeat 6 or 7 times then stop, returning after a while. I've searched a bit but cannot identify what's causing it.

As usual, readers, thanks for your helpful input.

Best Regards.

Are you in the same zone when this is happening? Does the sound repeat even while you are zoning? have you checked the sound mixer to ensure the sound you are hearing is even coming from the eq client?

The sound seems to happen when EQ is running, regardless of character or zone.

I'm afraid the second question exceeded my technical know-how. That the sounds only seems to happen when EQ is running might be a red herring, but it seems like a strong coincidence to me.

It starts after I've been in the game for some time, not right away, then repeats regularly. I did check my windows system sounds and it's not one of those.

I'd suggest keeping a more detailed log of details whenever you encounter the sound: like location (zone and area), character played, etc.

And maybe try to fraps record it.

Default EQ timer

Sadly I've never actually used or activated the EQ clock that reminds you of how long you have been active per session (you can set it for whatever time but I'm sure it has a default if activated) so Im not even sure if it works on p99. But that was the first thing that popped into my head - maybe check into that? Hope it helps [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

The EQ alarm does work in P99, but iirc, it plays the quest complete, trumpet sound, not a cymbal sound.
