Before he was 2nd ranked (behind Usman), UFC fighter Colby Covington was about to be fired for mediocre performances and a lack of audience interest. The UFC basically let him know he was close to the chopping block. He was probably always a conservative, but he began exaggerating it, bringing politics into every interview he did, calling out the media and liberals, and just generally being a troll
It worked, it literally saved his career. Some people liked him, but many more hated him and started watching his fights hoping he would lose. But he didn’t. He has improved quite a bit and is now like I mentioned, ranked 2nd in his division
The reason I bring it up is he actually attracted Trump’s attention (Trump is a fan of UFC). And so when Trump was President he invited Colby to the White House to meet him. Colby got down on one knee and tried to kiss Trump’s hand like he was a king. Trump pulled his hand back with a look like “WTF are you doing”. Thought it was pretty funny.
