The last time I tried I couldn't use some of my items without a paid subscription :T

All I can tell you is they apparently removed a lot of restrictions. I think some gear might be restricted but you get a gift that removes restrictions on old gear, too.
I really dig it. If FFXIV sucks (again), then P99 and Vanguard will be the only MMOs I play for a long, long time. At least until Elder Scrolls: Online
