I got food stamps for a while, once. Switched up jobs and was only making about $1,100 a month since it was part time, but it qualified for food stamps, about $150 bucks a month. Once I went full time it was gone. I think in my state, WA. You'd only need to hit a certain income rate (I believe below $1,300 a month) for certain state benefits. I'm not sure about medical/cash benefits, they're pretty tough on that, I think you MUST have kids in order to qualify.
If I wasn't so determined to get full time into the company I'm pretty sure I could have just stayed around 1,000 a month and kept collecting benefits forever.
