I would not recommend using this substance at all. Although it is a "new" thing among the youth not all that much is known about its side-effects. What is known is that it works on Kappa-opioid system which is related with addiction and withdrawl[1] Furthermore it works on Dopamine secretion and therefore can have short term effects such as depression, anxiety, paranoia, euforia and dysphoria amongst others but could also have long term effects such as schizophrenia or Parkinsonism when used in excess[2].

What is very positive about this drug is that it is opening new ideas in the way we wish to treat patients with these conditions and how to go about it. But to go as far as to recommend its use. No. This is not a magical drug and just because it is naturally occuring does not mean it is any less harmful. Just though I would add my opinion.

[1] Depressive-like effects of the kappa opioid receptor agonist salvinorin A are associated with decreased phasic dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens

[2] Role of kappa-opioid receptors in the effects of salvinorin A and ketamine on attention in rats.
