DotA2 is a remake of a custom map made literally by some amateur a decade ago. It was kinda cool then and it provided a platform for eSports that wasn't just CounterStrike or Starcraft, but it was never so amazing that it would make sense to copy it directly in a professional production.

What a mistake that will prove to be as people discover that a) it's the same game they've already gotten tired of back in 2005 and b) it's the same game that was designed by a guy who had never been within spitting distance of a professional game development studio.

The reason LoL is such a huge success is because it borrows the concept and supports it with professional development, providing players with a game that's both new and of high quality. DotA is neither, there's a reason people no longer play the Warcraft version to any meaningful extent, and porting it to a shiny engine won't change that.
