It's not "illegal" in a criminal sense to sell the plat. Technically, there may be some infringement of Sony's rights somewhere that would give them a civil case, but the damages would be minimal and not worth filing over.

Krayze is threatening to turn over his records to the authorities who would then, in theory, be obliged to pursue the matter as a criminal case under 18 USC 2701 which was cited earlier. In all probability, he'll be met with a roll of the eyes and the case would go nowhere. If he tries to sue the "hackers" civilly, he'll be forking over a lot of $ upfront to the lawyer taking the case, if he can even find one to take it.

The costs involved in any case would be large, and his threats of legal action are meaningless puffery born of frustration and embarrassment.
