smedley has confirmed it will be sandbox
smedley plays EVE to get an idea of how a sandbox game should go (he tweets and has convos with the leader of Goonswarm regularly on twitter)
there are rumors that it will be free to play, which, if they've learned their lessons from PS2, might not be a bad road to take.
