Shaman is a FULL time job both grouping and soloing. It is a great class but a busy as hell one compared to a Cleric.

AFK/Netflix clerics tend not to make it to 50, I saw a few with a bad rep when I was levelling my SK (they'd ninja AFK or slow the group down by going to "walk the dog" etc).
If you want to be a cleric, be prepared not to be the AFK type unless the tank/puller/etc calls one.
Clerics can be stressful at 39 when you're still learning the CH duration, I remember purple lining a couple of people
