Wrong, common argument from revisionist liberal history. Jefferson specifically
removed extra commas from the 2nd amendment when it was ratified to avoid this confusion about the militia, and any writings of the founders will confirm that the people, not the state, are the militia. In fact, a good faction of the founders were against standing armies at all.

Liberals also like to falsely claim the National Guard is the militia. Yes, the 2nd amendment ratified in 1791 was totally referring to an organization formed in 1903.
Furthermore, the supreme court has ruled since the Bill of Rights' inception that the 2nd amendment gives you the
personal right to own a firearm, so there is both historical and legal precedence.
