Same thing happened to a good RL friend of mine. I met him through EQ and we lived in the same city so we started hanging out. Great guy, he was married to another EQ player, they had 2 kids, etc. One day she asked for a divorce out of the blue. She left him for another guy she met in game. Abandoned her kids, moved to California, the works. My buddy had to call her and basically beg her to speak to her own children and stay in their lives. What a piece of trash she was.
My friend eventually quit EQ when he realized what a destructive force it could be. He went out and found a good woman who had kids of her own who was in a similar situation to him. They got married and went on to live a happy life together as far as I know.
