Oddly, I think it can be easier to make plat on a lower character than mid-range at times. When I started on the server I did nothing but farm everfrost bears, wolves and spiderlings for awhile. Heck, even the goblins/skellies/pups with cracked staffs. Great zone for players new to the server. Hit the ramp to BB and kill those four spawns so you still level a bit from them (and their fangs) and the vengefuls. Sell off the HQ bear for 20-25p each. Make a skinning knife, buy a sewing kit, make leather padding. Heck, even the polar bear skins sell if you find someone in the zone doing the WC cap thing. There was a player in EF the other day who paid 100pp (hopefully to a true newbie or non-twinker) for one, just so he could get the heck out of Everfrost.
You should have 500pp by the time you hit level 6-7 if you're able to make it to EC. I was well over 2k by the time I was able to make a friend and get a port at level 12 - Yes, I'm too cheap to pay for ports before I buy any gear. Heck, who am I kidding? I still have only paid for 2 ports ever.
