From the information I have gathered from my own guild mates on the events. I have no reason to believe that the zone even crashed during this event but many players went LD more then likely as to what was described as above.
How could you be playing MMO's as far back as EQ classic and not know the difference between frame rate lag, and latency lag.

The only way a group of people could all go LD at once is:

A: They all have the same isp provider on the same node and it crashed

B: They all have inferior graphic's cards for a game over 15 year's old that a modern day tablet could run.

Either way the chances for either are astronomically low, if not down right impossible.

As to the issue of Ban's, everyone is asking the wrong question.

Why ban by account when ban's can be issued by IP or Mac address just like IP exemptions are made for different player's living in the same home. That would be a perma fix and hard goodbye for any hacker's.

And no ghosting will not work AT ALL!

Ghosting is used to steal info or hack a system for a limited duration of time it's meant to delay a trace. It cannot work on a server client connection that requires packets to and from the source to destination. The zones load from your hard drive the mobs from the server. Half of Eq is client, half server, it needs a direct path to run.
