It exists, it's called drop transfer and I have no idea why people are so afraid to do it. Just find somewhere no one else goes and log both characters there.

The staff receives about 10+ petitions per week of ground transfers that have gone wrong. If you drop it and it poofs, or if you drop it and someone else picks it up, there's a good chance you're SOL.
