also milk contains lactose which is a sugar so it would make sense that drinking milk would reduce the craving.

your body needs sugar of some kind to function. if all sugars (like everything else these are chemicals) were removed from your system you would die very quickly.

what i think is being discussed is refined sugars...which you can live without. like any chemical that your system is sensitive to, you will notice a difference if the level in your system suddenly changes. anyone who has gone a few weeks without any sweets (i.e. refined sugars) can tell you what happens if you suddenly eat a piece of cake...you will feel a rush.

i'm not sure that i would clump all chemicals into the same definition as drugs, though depending on the definition you use it could easily be construed that way.

when i say "drugs" i'm talking about (mostly) pharmaceutical drugs that are recognized by the gov't and illegal drugs on the schedules of banned substances. Maybe i would stretch that to include some over the counter supplements you can buy at any GNC, like Kava-Kava, etc.

when someone calls themselves straight-edge that means to me that they are following the letter of the law to "T". So, anyone who uses illegal drugs (though they may be wonderful people) are not someone i would call straight-edge.
