Im certainly not an expert on it, but looking at my brother behave this way, it looks like an addiction to me. I looked it up and it seems its still on debate wether or not sugar addiction is a reality.

in order to be an addiction there has to be a physical dependency. there's a huge difference between needing something and craving something.
if you crave sugar, you can ignore the craving and you'll be fine.
compare this to caffeine, which will give you a headache if you ignore your cravings (and you're addicted).
