Sugar is addictive. I've never read anything regarding the matter, I'm just speaking from experience here. A few months ago I started plumping up a little and decided I needed to stop drinking pop (soda) altogether. I quit cold turkey and drank a couple cups of coffee each day to quell what I assumed was just a caffeine addiction. After a day or two, the temptation to eat/drink something really sugary was incredible. The thought of a Gatorade (something I never drink that isn't even that sugary) made me tremble with desire. I just about went insane thinking about sugary foodstuffs. I eventually managed to control my sugar cravings through withdrawal with a glass of milk daily. There are a lot of legal addictive stimulants out there, sugar and caffeine included.
