The ping indicator in EQ seems to be a little off for everyone (i've noticed it, anyway. It's not consistent though, sometimes its fine other times its awful).
If you guys are getting client side lag, and it sounds like you are, I don't think theres anything anyone can do for you... Just the usual suggestions, i suppose. Make sure you dont have any other programs running that use the net, turn off firewalls, anti-virus software, bittorent programs, etc.
Also, if you're on wireless, try switching to a wired connection. Plugging into the wall can sometimes help!
