Oh I was in KC a few days ago on my Druid and I got in a group with a 58 Ranger and a 56 Monk. Monk pulled Ranger tanked. Both had a Fungi and killer weapons. I spent more time looting than healing lol. A Ranger can kick some butt no doubt in a group. But solo they are just slow as hell. And they will be worse in Velious. Mobs there have a TON of hit points and hit like a freight train. I know they get panic animal but guess what they bring their little friends with them at times. With no FD or Gate guess what. Squish. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
It is a slow drawn out process to kill on a Ranger solo high up. A cat and mouse game. And a ton of downtime just like their cousins a Druid. Although a Druid can kill 4 at a time quad kitting to one on the Ranger. But hard to find 4 really high up mobs to do it. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

You're right that it's hard but that's why we have snare/ensnare/root/sow. If you get too much you snare em or root and run. What I would do is camp the snow griffen things and whatever else near the bridge near Grete Spaign that's next to the zone out to iceclad. I died sometimes. Can't avoid that.
Nothing was fast then. That must have been 2002 or early 2003. Have a screenshot of me in 2003. I was on a pvp server so I had that to worry about too. I usually found some kind of group in velious.
Generally the worst thing about soloing is being alone with nobody to talk to and not having a good healer. This is why I often chose to farm platinum or kill the easier cons; less sitting by myself.
