There's some good advice in here, but there's also some bad stuff.

The rune setup is pretty good, and I reccomend it. There are some variations to it you can try. I'm a fan of swapping out armor yellows for gold yellows, and picking up armor reds, especially with no more HoG, and let's face it you're probably not going to be picking up Kage most games. It depends on the lane of course, but there is definately a lot of room to try different Mark/Seal combos.

The starting items bit isn't useful anymore. Since patch Flask cost has increased by 120 gold and isn't really an autobuy anymore. I would go the old traditional route of Fairy charm, wards, pots.

Crucibal active is "alright" but it's really outclasses by locket and shureliyas actives. Those are the 2 support items, besides aegis youre going to want to rush. If you for some reason just have tons of gold and can get a Crucible by all means do it, but focus on getting your core of: boots, aegis, shurelyias, locket.

Don't bother wasting 1050 gold on upgrading Aegis to Runic unless your team needs the extra MR. You'll find in a number of games that aegis to be just fine.

The biggest thing somebody new to Sona can do to really get good at her beyond building correctly and poking/sustaining through abilities is to learn what her autoattacks are going to proc based on what she's playing, and then using them accordingly.
