I pvped exclusively my entire time in EQ until i played p99. If red wasn't a fucking terrible community I might have been there, but your population is awful and it's 90% trolls. It's not a target rich environment.

Red server isn't a horrible community, but there are a large number of losers... I play there and the /ooc is horrible, not even good PvP. Having a level 50+ means you get jumped 2v1 or worse and if you kill someone their partner will plug.

The server is basically Nihilum + everyone else... depressing really, coulda been the second coming of 1999 PvP.

Twink rogue in his 20s versus non-geared enchanter at L19...twinks ruin the low level pvp and grouping is made incredibly difficult due to the low population.
Server is too cannibalistic to be able to grow out of that horrible hole it dug itself at launch.

Best way I have ever heard it stated. Guard assist, mage swords, exploits, and over-the-top griefing killed the server in the first 2 weeks. If it was done right, easily 200+ population every night. I bet even 300+.
