What I don't understand is why people think it would benefit them. I guess if this were a business or some type of monetary/profitable operation, it might motivate someone to work it out with the guy. That's the complete opposite here. Attacking the server does nothing but aggrivate the players, which in turn demotivates the staff.

Even from a monetary operation, *if* some type of negotiation took place, it would only be to stop the attack, and reveal the identity of the person who did it so they could press charges.
Companies do not negotiate with "internet terrorists"
