I could see maybe using a warning shot to scare off some negroids trying to jimmy your lock. Personally, to maximize killing shots, I'd wait until said negroids opened door and entered the house, then open fire. It funnels all the negroids into the line of fire.

Otherwise, warning shots are not appropriate in a self-defense situation. Aim to kill, everytime, 2-3 rounds center mass in every target.
