When all citizens have guns in their houses, a criminal HAS to bring a gun to defend himself.
Over here most burglars just run away when confronted, an option that just isn't possible when every confrontation degenerates into a shoot-out.
Apparently the term 'arms race' is still lost on americans... Keep doing that macho stuff though, it makes you look really cool
