I'm much more of a rum guy, but I enjoy bourbon, Irish whiskey, and single-malt Scotch whisky (in different ways).
Bulleit is decent for the price as far as bourbon goes. I had some of that Ridgemont reserve, and it was good too. Other than these two, I haven't had much "good" bourbon to speak of, but I like it!
Irish is Jameson or Powers gold. I do not recommend buying more expensive Irish whiskey, as it is nearly impossible to get "the better grade" of artisan-level Irish in the USA, and most of any extra money you'd spend goes into a fancy label.
Good Scotch Whisky is ubiquitous, and your wallet will guide you as far as quality. It's almost universally true that the more you spend, the better it is. It is an important caveat that "good Scotch" ALWAYS means "single-malt;" a blended Scotch is ALWAYS rotgut, I don't care if you spent $800 on that bottle of johnny walker rainbow label, it's still a fucking blend and therefore crap.
I do not enjoy rye or unaged corn whiskey. Or Canadian whiskey. Even this crown royal black label i got for the dice bag (my real nerds feel me) tastes like fucking Kessler.
