Nihilum did "earn" their gear because they did fight. They were challenged, and they won. You can debate the whys and hows for eternity, but the fact remains that Holo and FF both contested content and both no longer exist. In any case, they certainly didn't fold because they got deleveled 4% at a time.

I was in both Nihilum and FF and i can tell you that we rarely got challenged, and challenged.
I tried for a long time to get holo and FF to group up to challenge Nihi in fear and that happened only a couple of times because of some 4 year old drama or what not. Even while i was pushing for this though, i understood why people didnt want to go and fuck with Nihi in fear and i admit, sometimes myself did not feel like it. These (Abysal, Andis, me, Brainz and others) are people that enjoy pvp. Bragging in /ooc was a big part of why people like abysal did it. So you have people who enjoy pvp, people who when odds are even, never hesitate to engage. So why arent they engaging with Nihilum at much lower numbers just to slow their gear progression and have fun pvp at the same time? Its because of the xp loss. Because the grind is already horrible and you do not want to add to it. You must have really huge blinders not to see this. Why would people like Abysal say no to a night of fucking with Nihilum? Because of the xp loss. There is no other reason than this. If there is one, maybe someone can point it out to me.
After i switched to Nihi, and we were sitting in fear unchallenged with FF sometimes sitting at entrance to kill stragglers. Beside one attempt at fuckin people up by a single guy while we were killin CT in a month of raiding i saw 0 challenges.
If they didnt fold because of xp loss, not so sure why they folded when they already had the grind done on red. And why is it that shitty players are decked out in amazing gear if they got regularly challenged?
I guess now its a bit better because numbers are more even a bit, but back when Nihi was zerganormous, it was the state of things
It does not change what im saying, that xp loss makes pvp happen alot less than it would if it was toned down by a good portion.
From what i can tell the ratio of PVE/PVP is 1h grind/1death at 57
It should be 3-4 deaths IMO
