while leveling up? it's a matter of choice. gloomwater harpoon is a high backstab weapon, but it's slow. it also lends to your main stats, though. the serrated bone dirk is very nice as well. that's an 8/27 with a snare proc(mad aggro warning). when i was leveling back in november/december i used the serrated bone dirk and stiletto of the bloodclaw combo. it would get aggro off a lazy tank a little easily, but it also enabled me to solo blues in SOLA and other spots by myself. They both proc, one is a snare and both have a DoT proc along with a DD from the stiletto.

i think one of the best for coming up came more recently from the spectres in the feerrott but i can NOT remember what it's called...

anyways choose for yourself. Just look for a good dmg/delay ratio. sometimes less dmg and less delay is better, sometimes the stats on a slow weapon help out. Strength being your main stat(regular attack damage and backstab damage) you'll want plenty of that.

EDIT:

polished steel dirk, from the spectres. it's simple, 8/23 and no stats. but excellent dmg/delay ratio for a lowbie.

also, i said solo by myself. ha!
