I can't believe I have to post this, but I'm going to repeat this truism for those of you who don't understand why anyone would pay for items they want in game:
Time is money.
That's not philosophical or metaphysical. It's fact. All of the physical items you think of as wealth are made from minerals, plant fibers and animal products. None of those things in their raw form are worth much when they're buried in the ground or in the middle of a jungle. Their value is determined by the human effort required to retrieve and refine them.
Can you think of an example of that last part? No, I didn't think so. Never mind.
